Material to Learn

  • Rear Round Kick

    • Chamber happens on the side of the body and the whole body rotates together

    • Proper tabletop chamber is present

    • Hip swings all the way through the target

    • Back foot completes a full pivot

    • Rechamber is still present, even when landing in front

  • Back Knuckle

    • Punch with palm facing the ceiling

    • Striking surface is front two knuckles

    • This is NOT an uppercut, punch should come straight out, not up

  • Hammer Fist

    • Chamber up by ear on the same side

    • Pinky side of fist facing the floor

    • Aim with elbow

    • Rotate hips, timing with strike

    • Straighten arm to strike target

    • Fist should travel from high to low

    • Drop body weight by bending the knees

  • Hook Kick

    • Hook kick begins like a side kick that misses to 45 degrees

    • Heel should be closer to the target than toes

    • Heel is pulled to the butt

    • Ending chamber looks like a roundhouse kick

  • Heian Nidan Part 3 & 4

    • All previous notes are still present

    • Tempo is present

    • Power and timing are being implemented

    • Kias are present in the correct places

  • Side Control

    • Knees are positioned correctly and far enough up the body

    • Arms are wrapped properly to exert control on opponent

    • Proper pressure is being applied

  • Combinations

    • Students should know 3-5 sparring combinations well

    • Combinations have specific targets

    • Hands are returning to defensive positions between strikes

    • Proper defensive posture is being used by opponents
